Projects make a difference

TVS in situ for Coronation

We have now finished replacing patient televisions which were up and running for King Charles III's Coronation. Patients can also watch their favourite programmes free of charge thanks to an ongoing initiative to ensure everyone has a working television. The emphasis has been on trying to install sets which are easy to use!

Ten new sets have been provided replacing those which were no longer working provided by the Friends six years ago. Then we initiated a £35.000 project to provide three large TVs for public areas plus 15 individual sets for patients. These are now gradually being replaced and headsets are of course provided.

The new sets were connected by Chairman Ian Philip and Treasurer Chris Dent in both the men's and women's wards.

Ian said: “They were installed in time for the patients to be able to watch the World Cup match against France. Most of the patients were really appreciative!”

 Making a World of difference

Patients at Sevenoaks Hospital can now to watch their favourite programmes thanks to a £35.000 new set of TVs provided by the League of Friends.

They have very proved popular and make a world of difference and are free for patients to use. So each bed now has a high-tech 19-inch screen and patients can watch and listen to them using earphones. We have installed 15 TVs plus three larger 32-inch sets in the side wards and a 40-inch screen in the Minor Injuries Unit waiting area.

Chairman Ian Philip said: “The overall cost of providing these televisions is approximately £35,000 which we consider to be a very good use of funds built up over a number of years.

“Patients generally have a very high level of satisfaction of the treatment they receive in the hospital but the main recurring negative feedback is boredom. In the past we have gone some way towards alleviating this by providing newspapers, and televisions is the next step along this route.

“We are very grateful to the input that we have had from the matrons and nursing staff on this important project. We’ve also had invaluable support from NHS property services.”

Collection boxes and street collections

Money from collection boxes in local shops and businesses provide a welcome and key source of income for us. So do look out for our brightly coloured boxes.

We also have wall safes in the hospital and hold street collections every year. Please do think of us – any help however small is welcome!

Look out for us too when we do our annual street collection in Sevenoaks or in local supermarkets
